Getting your '33 Hot Rod through the IVA

The '33 Hot Rod is designed for Strip or Track use only and is not IVA compliant.

For those of you who would like to make the car road legal, we will, of course, be able to supply everything you need.

Not having attempted to submit a '33 Hot Rod for the IVA test, we cannot be certain if they will be happy.

Because you are building the car yourself, we cannot guarantee that your car will pass. It is also our experience that different testers have different opinions on what passes and what doesn’t.

The specification to which you build the car will also affect its ability to pass, but we are here to help.

The following items can represent issues for you as they will most car builders:

  • Windscreen – the IVA manual should confirm that the markings on the US screens are compliant
  • Seat Belt bolts – we can supply Grade 8.8 bolts
  • Wipers and Washers will be required
  • Steering Wheel – slatted steering wheel is not acceptable
  • Instruments and switches – standard issue switches and gauges will fail
  • Standard door mirrors do not give sufficient field of vision
  • Suicide doors may require additional catches or locks
  • Exhaust pipe edges too sharp
  • Exhaust Noise
  • Wiring needs to be in conduit
  • Distance of lamps from outer edges of vehicle need to be checked

The exhausts as supplied are capable of passing the IVA, but not with 400 bhp! Exhausts with catalytic converters are quieter. A bead will need to be welded around the tailpipe to avoid a sharp edge – an easy job for your local welder!

Please feel free to ask us – we are here to help you!
